Lankayan Song

Been there. Done that. But have you heard this song before?

This song brings back wonderful memories. Island life memories that I’ve spent for the last 13 years. Well, not entirely but almost.
The very first time that I heard the song, I actually said to myself, “wow… this is a nice island song”. And I felt in love with it right away. This beautiful song, was then titled Sipadan Song, is derived from the tune of the famous Jamaican Farewell.

And I heard it again this morning on my iPod and as usual I managed to get it ‘stuck’ in my head for the whole day.

Lankayan Song was rewritten in the early year of 2000, by a bunch of Divemasters, dedicated especially for Lankayan Island thus became our legacy. The Divemasters were working for Lankayan Island Dive Resort at that time.

All you need is a guitar and one of the resort staff (normally performed by the entire staff) to sing it – visitors or guests of the resort can easily sing along to the tune.

Like the others, I am sure this song will always remind us of all the good island life we had. My fellow Divemaster/Instructor friends, guests and visitors will always admire and treasure those memories and especially this particular song: forever more…
