Your SCUBA Journey: It Begins Here
YOUR journey to scuba diving begins long before you become a certified or licensed diver. You’ve imagined yourself swimming freely among the fishes in the sea. Well, that was the first step of the journey – the fundamental.
There are many types of diving and one of them is SCUBA. In this context, we’ll be referring to recreational diving. But first lets understand the basic definitions of the diving “language” – you will get use to it as you “dive” along.
SCUBA is the acronym from Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. A diver is a person who uses SCUBA – the use of air tank and other diving gears – as a mean of life support to be able to adapt to the underwater environment while doing underwater activities for instance making photos, video, wreck, cave or simply leisure diving.
The first record of man using air tanks was in the 15th century – in Italy. Undeniably, diving has evolved so fast and now days; divers are donning state of the art, reliable and safe equipments. Not to forget colourful and trendy gears too.
I started my diving journey a few centuries later. It was in 1996 when I got hold of my certification card as an Open Water Diver. My ticket to engage in scuba activities – I’ll elaborate on how you can get hold of one in the next article.
Your path to become a certified scuba diver will involve the following:
- Curiosity You’ve seen people swimming amongst many colourful, big and small fishes in one of the many movies or documentaries on TV. A non-diver will instantly picture himself/herself exploring the belly of the ocean. So you’ve been wondering how you will be able to do exactly that.
- Interest One thing lead to another – an interest comes right after curiosity. You must have the interest to get the most out of this fun-filled sport.
- Participate You may sign up for scuba diving course offered by the dive centres or clubs in your area or where ever you are heading next on this planet earth.
- Certification The course basically involves step-by-step training modules that will require you to master the basic diving skills progressively – theory and practical. Rest assured that the training is actually easier than you thought it would be.
- Having fun for life Recreational scuba is all about fun. You can find new friends or get involve in local diving club or society or better yet diving the best dive sites the world has to offer. Remember! 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered in water so there is plenty of space.
Your journey to become a scuba diver begins when you make the next move. Join in for the fun and a long-term life adventure that you will love. Some are doing it for fun, hobby, passion and some are doing it for work, studies or living. What ever it is that you choose, we are all in it for the enjoyment and satisfaction – there is no limit.
